Secretary Treasurer
STEFANIE NEUMANN FOR SECRETARY TREASURER!
Dear Members of the Vancouver Local, I’m putting my name forward for the position of Secretary Treasurer for the Vancouver Local and would like to share some of the reasons I’m the best candidate for this position.
I’ve been a Letter Carrier in the Lower Mainland since 1995 and an MSC at the Pacific Processing Plant since 2017. I’ve been an enthusiastic and active Shop Steward in the Vancouver Local for over 23 years, encouraging education, building solidarity, organizing the floor, and fighting for the improvement of human rights. Being on the work floor while being an activist has enabled me to hear and experience the reality of the negative changes to our work methods.
As Education Director for the Vancouver Local I have organized, facilitated, and developed various courses and education seminars. My duties as Education Director also require me to construct and manage an extensive education budget for the local. In 5 years as Education Director I met, or, exceeded the education needs of the local, while operating within or under budget.
My aptitude for paying attention to details along with my financial and organizational skills make me perfectly suited for the position of Secretary Treasurer! I have a proven track record and have never fell short of any task I have set out to accomplish. Our strength as a Union Local depends on our financial strength & stability. I will be transparent and inclusive as Secretary Treasurer and will continue to pass on my experience in assisting our members so that they can understand and apply their rights.
Thank you for your consideration.
In Solidarity,
Stefanie Neumann
Hello my name is Alvan Wu. I am running as a candidate for Secretary-Treasurer for the Vancouver Local of CUPW. I have worked at Canada Post for nearly 15 years as a PO4 at the old VPDC plant and now at the PPC. As for my union experience; I have been a Shop Steward for about 4 years at PPC on various shifts, have attended as a delegate at the Regional Conference and National Conference. Being a millennial worker in the present work environment allows for a younger worker’s perspective on issues facing our union. If given the opportunity as Secretary-Treasurer, I would like to support new ways to expand services the union does for members while also being fiscally responsible. Services that I believe are essential to the union’s future are: more educational opportunities, more outreach to young workers, better engagement with all members, and better transparency on financial matters of the union. Hopefully you will give me the opportunity to be your Secretary-Treasurer.
Solidarity!
Chief Shop Steward #2 Shift PPC
Re-elect John Tweed!
Chief Shop Steward Shift #2 PPC
I started as a PO4 Christmas casual in 1999 and as a permanent employee in 2004. From the very start I found myself compelled to step in and assist my fellow union members, providing information or being a witness to their interactions with the employer.
I believe we should be resolving issues on the work floor in real time whenever possible, without compromising people’s rights. We should expect the employer to respect the collective agreement during the work day, and not just when paper is filed.
I listen to members, help them to identify their concerns, and find solutions. I’ve recently started a weekly open door drop-in session with management to address members’ concerns in real time. I’m not afraid to ask questions or crush rumours. I represent members in disputes with thoroughness, clarity, with a focus on member-driven outcomes.
I’m committed to furthering education, for stewards, for members, and for myself. Member education means member power. My training has allowed me to champion workers’ rights, and to do more skillful work with members who are injured, stressed, or in crisis, with respect and compassion.
Issues on the work floor at PPC emerge and change constantly. As Chief Shop Steward I’m available at all hours, every day, to work with members and stewards. I am committed to continuing to provide quality representation for all of your needs!
My activist work includes:
- Shop Steward (2012–current)
- Chief Shop Steward working with the 3rd VP since 2018
- Successfully resolving members’ complaints and grievances
- LJOSH & First Aid for two years (2016-current)
- Consultations for shift bids, work processes, vacation allocations
- Regularly representing members in disciplinary meetings
- Facilitating formal and informal mediations
- Covering the Grievance Officer & arguing grievances
- WCB advocate working with the 2nd Vice-President
- Regional and National Convention, VDLC and BC Fed delegate
- Education (Basic and Advanced Shop Steward, Mental Health First Aid, Mental Health in the Workplace, WCB Appeals, Human Rights, Harassment and Violence Awareness, Political Action, Organizing to Make Change)
I am seeking re-election because this work matters, I am committed to representing my fellow union members, and I’m grateful to for having worked with many of you.
I am asking for your consideration on election day!
