Rick Irving for Representative of All Retired Members – Canada Post Pension Plan

Pension / Bulletin

2008-2011/465

The National Executive Board of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers has endorsed Brother Rick Irving to be the elected representative of all retired members of the Canada Post Pension Plan.

At a time when Canada Post wants new hires to be covered by a defined contribution pension plan, instead of the current defined benefit pension plan, we need a strong union voice to protect current and future retirees. Rick Irving is committed to ensuring that retirees have a voice in the administration of their pension plan, including its investments, how it communicates with its members, services them, and pension education issues.

As a retired person receiving a pension from Canada Post Pension Plan, you will soon be receiving a ballot to vote for your representative on the Pension Advisory Council (PAC).

Who is Rick Irving?

Brother Irving previously (October 2003 to October 2005) sat on the PAC as a bargaining agent appointed while a National Director of CUPW, before his retirement from Canada Post. In addition to serving the Union as National Director, Central Region, he was President of the Ottawa Local for several terms.

What is Brother Irving’s experience?

Brother Irving has:

  • prepared and facilitated many pension courses for CUPW members;
  • assisted and advised  numerous CUPW members in regards to their pension questions and concerns;
  • lobbies government at all levels on behalf of the Canadian Labour Congress to ensure adequate and secure pensions (including CPP/QPP and OAS) for all Canadians.

We need an effective union voice to represent retired pension plan members

Canada Post retirees need an advocate who will work to safeguard both their retirement and the pension income of future retirees.  This is why CUPW is asking you to vote for Brother Rick Irving.

In solidarity,

Denis Lemelin
National President
