Changes to the Casual list in VMPP and VPDC
On November 4, 2013, the Corporation sat down with the Union to discuss their plans for changes to the surge casual list both at the VPDC and VMPP.
The Corporation started by stating that the current call-in system being used in Vancouver was not the system used across the country and that Ottawa was making them change to this new process. Although they could not tell us which locations were using a different system than Vancouver. It appears that their National Office in Ottawa is more concerned with removing temps from the list if they had not accepted the Corporation criteria of reasonable availability for the six (6) month period, rather than offering work to the senior temporaries.

Typhoon Haiyan – You Can Help!
On Friday, November 10, 2013, Typhoon Haiyan slammed into the southern Philippines. This typhoon is being called the “most powerful storm in history” and packed maximum sustained winds of 315 kph. It has caused catastrophic destruction, injury and loss of life.
Our thoughts go out to the people of the Philippines, the Filipino-Canadian community and especially to our many Filipino friends and co-workers here in Vancouver.
At this time the full extent of the tragedy has yet to be determined, but what we do know is how we can reach out and send some help:

MSC Restructure Update – Depot 74
We have finally come to the end of the saga of the restructuring of the Part time Mail Service Couriers in Depot 74. In total we managed to gain back a few of the routes that the Corporation had cut in the original restructure that was implemented in June. From the eight (8) routes management had cut, we regained three (3) for a total loss of five (5) part time routes.
We have agreed to have a unit bid that is currently happening and it will be implemented on November 18, 2013. Continue reading “MSC Restructure Update – Depot 74”

WORKSAFE BC APPROVES WAGE LOSS CLAIM RESULTING FROM HARASSMENT AT HANDS OF CANADA POST SUPERVISOR!
In a decision dated July 5, 2013, WorkSafe BC awarded wage loss compensation to a South Vancouver Delivery Center (SVDC) Letter Carrier in respect to a workplace absence that resulted directly from the harassment that she suffered at the hands of her supervisor, Carmelo Renzullo. As the ninety (90) day appeal period has now expired, the decision is final.
