As part of its ongoing initiative to convince the CUPW membership of the need for cutbacks, Canada Post is in the process of sending out carefully-worded pamphlets directly to CUPW members throughout Canada. The purpose for this initiative is to undermine the collective bargaining process by selling a program of cutbacks directly to employees instead of authorized CUPW bargaining unit representatives. As such, this initiative is completely unethical and represents another in a long string of insidious attacks on bargaining unit rights.

Intensive Negotiations Begin February 22
Starting on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 the negotiating committees will begin intensive negotiations at a hotel in Ottawa. The decision to enter into intensive negotiations was taken after a week when CPC finally started to address some of the Union’s preoccupations. Although there have been no major breakthroughs there has been indications of potential movement. With little more than two months remaining until the parties obtain the right to strike and lockout the Union’s negotiating committee is determined to do everything possible to negotiate a collective agreement that meets our needs. Our Constitution (Articles 7.06 and 7.07) sets out monthly dues for all members and/or employees. The only difference between part-time, full-time, and temporary employees is in determining whether dues will be collectible for any given month.

These sessions should take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours and we will have some coffee, tea and cookies on hand to wet our whistles while we share information and get the low down on becoming a Picket Captain.
