As 2010 draws to a close and we approach what will very likely be a challenging start to the New Year with the expiration of our contract on January 31st, it seems fitting to reflect upon the current state of health and safety at Canada Post.
The following is the Canada Post Health and Safety Policy:

What is the difference between a position and an assignment?
All regular employees have both a position and an assignment. Your position is your classification and the post office you are working in. It could be, for example, FT PO-4 in the Edmonton Post Office, PT PO-4 in the VMPP Post Office, FT PO-5 in the VPDC Post Office, FT Letter Carrier in the Winnipeg Post Office, etc. Your assignment is your work area or route. For example, a FT PO-4’s assignment could be Oversize Section, Shift #3 and a Letter Carrier’s assignment could be Depot 74, Walk 45.

Nominations are now open for the following positions on the Local Executive Committee:
Full-Time Officers
President
2nd Vice-President
Grievance Officer
Table Officers
Education Director
Organization Director/Tyler
Recording Secretary/By-laws Chair
The duties of these positions are listed in the Vancouver Local by-laws.
Nominations must be submitted to the new Union Hall at 4530 Dawson Street in Burnaby by 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15, 2010. No late nominations will be accepted. Candidates and their nominators must be members in good standing. In addition, candidates must have attended at least three (3) General Membership Meetings in the previous twelve (12) months.
The exact dates for the election will be announced by the Balloting Committee. The schedule for the plant-gate election will be presented in a bulletin after nominations close.

Contract negotiations between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers began on November 10, 2010. CUPW will update you on the status of the negotiations as information becomes available.
As news of the implementation of the Modern Post in Winnipeg quickly spreads to CUPW members across the country, thanks to the blog, “The Workers Struggle With the Modern Post,”
