Short Term Disability Plan (STDP)

The Urban Collective Agreement was signed December 21, 2012. The Short Term Disability Plan (STDP) will come into effect January 1, 2013.

There are now two forms that must be filled out if a member gets sick and has to go on the STDP (an absence longer than 7 calendar days).

It is advised that the process to get on the STDP will be faster if the member gets these forms filled out in the first visit by her/his doctor in case the illness is predicted to be longer than seven calendar days.  Please note that in case of accident or hospitalization there is no waiting period and the payment will start from the first day of accident/hospitalization. Getting forms filled out the first day will expedite this payment as well.

The forms can be downloaded here:

VOTE “NO” to Urban Operations Tentative Agreement

Sisters and Brothers,

As you all know, the Union has reached a Tentative Agreement (TA) with the employer for the Urban Operations bargaining unit. A majority of the National Executive Board (NEB) members have voted in favor of the TA. We all know that it is far easier and simple to take what the employer is prepared to offer. But our Union has always been known to be militant and strong. Our Union always understood the issues of the working class. Historically CUPW never settled for what was being offered. CUPW always stood up and fought for what we deserved.

Local Executive Committee Recommends “NO” Vote to Tentative Agreement

This Tentative Agreement is a giant leap backwards. It contains major rollbacks. No one, including the National representatives who are in favour of acceptance, is saying that this is a good agreement. The primary reason to accept this agreement that is being put forward by the National Executive Board is that it would be better than running the risk of something worse being imposed by an arbitrator at Final Offer Selection.
