DOORS WILL BE TILED (LOCKED) 15 MINUTES INTO THE MEETING. IF YOU ARE LATE, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO VOTE.

PLEASE NOTE: The meetings will follow an agenda as per guidelines issued by the National Executive Board.

  • The vote will be preceded by a “membership information meeting” lasting approximately 45 minutes.
  • Only members in good standing of the local are entitled to attend the information meeting and vote on the ratification of the collective agreement.
  • The doors will be tiled (locked) 15 minutes into this meeting.
  • Ballot boxes will be made available to collect votes immediately after the “membership information meeting”.
  • Questions, answers and discussion can take place while members vote.

VOTE “NO” to Urban Operations Tentative Agreement

Sisters and Brothers,

As you all know, the Union has reached a Tentative Agreement (TA) with the employer for the Urban Operations bargaining unit. A majority of the National Executive Board (NEB) members have voted in favor of the TA. We all know that it is far easier and simple to take what the employer is prepared to offer. But our Union has always been known to be militant and strong. Our Union always understood the issues of the working class. Historically CUPW never settled for what was being offered. CUPW always stood up and fought for what we deserved.

Local Executive Committee Recommends “NO” Vote to Tentative Agreement

This Tentative Agreement is a giant leap backwards. It contains major rollbacks. No one, including the National representatives who are in favour of acceptance, is saying that this is a good agreement. The primary reason to accept this agreement that is being put forward by the National Executive Board is that it would be better than running the risk of something worse being imposed by an arbitrator at Final Offer Selection. *       Chief Shop Stewards must be nominated by a member in their own shift or work area in keeping with Article 5.1B of the Local By-laws.

***   9.7A (5)  [previously 9.7A(4)] An election to cover the remainder of the term of office shall take place as part of the next Annual Elections, if applicable.

The duties of these positions are described in the Vancouver Local By-laws, and are available at the Union Hall or at any General Membership Meeting.

Written and accepted nominations must be submitted to the Union Hall at 4530 Dawson Street in Burnaby by 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Saturday, December 15, 2012.  No late nominations will be accepted.  Candidates and their nominators must be members in good standing.  In addition, candidates must have attended at least three (3) General Membership Meetings in the previous twelve (12) months.

The exact dates for the election to be announced by the Balloting Committee.  The schedule for the 2013 plant-gate election will be presented in a bulletin after nominations close.
