Vaccine Practice Hearings on the Merit

December 15, 2021

Since the arbitrator did not issue a cease-and-desist order (similar to an injunction) as per our application regarding Canada Post Corporation’s vaccination practice, the next step is for an arbitrator to hear the merit of the case by way of priority.

The cease-and-desist application asks an arbitrator to rule on whether the practice shall be suspended while grievances are heard on the merit. The questions that will be put to an arbitrator (or the scope) on the merit will be broader and different than the narrow criteria used for a cease-and-desist application.

Solidarity and Support for the BC Lower Mainland

December 13, 2021

Members across the country have
British Columbia residents in their
thoughts after weeks of record rainfall,

You may be contacted by either email or a letter to your home and asked to submit proof from the appropriate provincial health authority within five (5) business days of receiving the request. Letters and emails should start to be issued next week.

CEASE AND DESIST ARBITRATION: UPDATE

November 24, 2021

CUPW’s arbitration hearing against Canada Post’s vaccination practice was held today. We presented evidence and expert witness testimony, and the Union believes it provided ample evidence for Arbitrator Burkett to suspend Canada Post’s vaccination practice.

While we continue to encourage voluntary vaccination for members, frequent
rapid testing is an alternative, for people who do not want to be vaccinated, that will help to keep workplaces safe and ensures members are treated fairly and their rights are protected.
