Letter Carrier Shop Steward Meetings – Feb – Apr 2013

Letter Carrier Shop Stewards

We have a schedule of our upcoming Letter Carrier – Shop steward meetings for February – April, 2013.

altAs union activists, taking the time to learn together, communicate & plan is the key to the work that needs doing for the Union. We have reserved space in the board room at the union hall & are using the same venue downtown that we have used successfully in the past as it has space & is usually pretty quiet in the later afternoon. Both venues are easily accessed by sky train/bus & the Union Hall has free parking outside or near by, the parking meters around 349 West Georgia are not the most expensive & it is a short walk from there to VFS.

NEWS RELEASE: CUPW Vancouver Local tells Canada Post to get back to the bargaining table

For Immediate Release June 26, 2012

“It has been one year since the Federal Government introduced unnecessary back to work legislation to end Canada Post’s lockout of CUPW members and nothing has changed” said Robert Mulvin, President of the Vancouver Local of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers. “In Vancouver unwarranted discipline continues to be meted out, letter carriers continue to be injured, and people are worried about their pensions and post-retirement benefits” he continued.

“The only way to resolve this and to address the real issues facing postal workers is for Canada Post to head back to the bargaining table and work to resolve real issues facing CUPW members” stated Mulvin.

“To mark this day the CUPW Vancouver Local is launching an online video, with postal workers sharing their memories of the lockout,” Mulvin said.

At her subsequent disciplinary interview, the Grievor expressed her apology for the mishap. In his debut as an arbitration advocate, Vancouver Local Vice-President Kim Evans argued that Canada Post did not take into account all of the circumstances when imposing the suspension. Indeed, Arbitrator Blasina noted that Canada Post refused to take her apology into account as part of its decision-making process:
