Please read the information below, taken from our Vancouver Local By-laws, in regards to the Committee’s mandate.
8.3Q Women’s Committee
1) The Women’s Committee shall be an open standing committee to deal with the status of women in the workplace, union and society.
2) In September of each year, the Women’s Committee shall meet and elect a Coordinator. The Coordinator shall be allowed to book-off up to eight (8) members permitting for loss of wages. Any dispute regarding book-offs shall go to the Local Executive. The Coordinator shall be ratified by the Local Executive and at the subsequent General Membership Meeting.
3) The Local Women’s Committee’s functions shall be to study issues and concerns affecting women and shall make recommendations to the Local Executive Committee on:
a) involvement of women in the Union with the goal of full participation of women in all levels of the Union;
b) the education of membership on equality issues facing women;
c) the situation of women in the workplace and ways to improve it.
