Recent mailing from Coughlin & Associates
Coughlin & Associates, the company that looks after the CUPW sponsored Basic Life Insurance, has recently mailed application or Change of Beneficiary and Name forms to approximately 30,000 CUPW members.All members in good standing of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers are covered by the CUPW Basic Life Insurance with the premiums paid by the CUPW Insurance Trust. While the coverage is automatic, CUPW does recommend that members fill out an application form to let the insurance company know whom you’ve chosen as your beneficiary. This insurance should not be confused with the CPC Basic Life Insurance Plan. The CPC plan is administered by the employer with premiums deducted from your pay cheques. You should have been given and completed application forms for both plans when you were hired by Canada Post.
When filling out the recently mailed application form for the CUPW Basic Life Insurance (available for download HERE) you only need to complete steps one through three.
Beneficiaries
You can leave your insurance money to family members, friends, charity, a combination of these things – or simply to your estate. Leaving it to your estate may seem like the easiest thing to do, but be aware that this option will create some extra hassles and expenses for whomever handles your affairs after your death.
If you are sure that you have already notified the administrators of both plans (AccessHR for the CPC plan and Coughlin & Associates for the CUPW plan) of your chosen beneficiaries and there has been no change, you need not take any further action. However if you are not sure or just want to confirm that they have the proper information on record, you can contact Coughlin & Associates at 1-888-304-2894 and AccessHR at 1-877-807-9090.
