Lump Sum Payment for PPC Workers

You may be eligible for a lump sum payment of either $200 or $400 if your position was moved to the Pacific Processing Centre. Article 29.11 (f) of the Collective Agreement provides the following:

29.11 (f) Displacement

When an employee is displaced permanently from a working place to another, he or she shall be entitled to a lump sum compensation of two hundred dollars ($200) or four hundred dollars ($400) depending on whether the distance between his or her residence at the time of the transfer and his or her new working place has increased by three point two (3.2) or six point five (6.5) kilometres, (two (2) or four (4) miles), respectively.

In spite of the Union’s repeated requests to make these payments in a timely manner, Canada Post has delayed the process and only just supplied a list of members whom they believe are eligible to receive the lump sum. After a preliminary review of the list it appears that there are a number of errors.

If you have reason to believe that the address Canada Post had for you at the time your position was relocated to the PPC is incorrect (e.g. due to you having moved your residence) please contact the Union Hall with the details if you believe you should be entitled to the lump sum payment.

Barring unforeseen circumstances, our staff are scheduled to work from 07h45 to 16h00 Monday through Friday. Alternatively you can send a fax to (604) 685-4931 – please identify on the fax that it is about the Lump Sum Payment. We have also set up a dedicated email address that you can forward your information to at [email protected].

The information we will require in order to follow up is:

  • Your full name and employee ID number
  • The date your position was moved to the PPC
  • Where you worked before the move (e.g. VPDC or VMPP)
  • Your home address on the date your position was moved
  • Your current phone number and the best time to contact you
  • Your email address, if you wish to provide it

As many of you may be aware, Anju Urie-Parmar was the full-time Postal Transformation Coordinator who worked closely with the Local, Regional and National Union throughout the transition to the PPC. As an extension of that role she has agreed to continue to assist us by helping to review the list and verify its accuracy. It is important that we receive any of your concerns with respect to this payment as soon as possible so that the verification process can be completed.
