The union has now concluded its consultation with the employer regarding changes made to the management structure of the retail sections of Canada Post as it affects wicket installations in the Lower Mainland West of Aldergrove and Coquitlam.
The full office bidding for the newly designated post office started on June 17, 2013. The new combined post office is based in Surrey Main for the purpose of adhering to the forty (40) km rule. Originally wickets were designated as three stand alone offices in 2009, the employer has now decided to combine all three. This was done without agreement of the union.
The employer has agreed to retain the relief pools which existed prior to the change in Coquitlam, Surrey and Vancouver Main. There may be times however when the relief worker may be required to work outside their current areas of coverage.
The existing vacation schedules for all incumbents will remain unchanged for the 2013/2014 vacation year. After that, a single Post Office wide bid will take place as opposed to the 3 separate bids which were in effect before the change.
The temporary employee list will be based out of Surrey Main, however if you are a temporary employee the local you are a member of will change depending on where you are working. For example, you will be a member of the Fraser Valley West Local when unassigned or when working in Surrey installations, a member of the Vancouver Local when working in Vancouver installations and a member of the Royal City Local if you are working in Royal City installations.
If you somehow end up at the wrong local meeting, be assured that you will have a say at the meeting and be welcomed by any of the three locals as you are always welcome to attend union meetings!
Below is a list of the affected installations and which local they are a part of;
Coquitlam Main & Port Coquitlam are part of Royal City Local,
Langley, Surrey & Aldergrove are part of Fraser Valley West Local,
Vancouver Main, West Vancouver, Bentall, Station ‘D’, South Burnaby & Richmond are part of Vancouver Local.
People who are relieving or incumbents are part of the above locals, it is only the Temps that will move from local to local as called.
Temporary employees who have applied for indeterminate employment are advised to review their applications with the employer to ensure that they are not voided by virtue of applying for work at the 3 former Post Offices.
The employer has agreed to explain these changes to applicants who were transferring to the three Post Offices.
The final implementation date for these changes will be July 28, 2013.
