A notice of motion was presented at the June 25th, 2015, General Membership Meeting. The motion seeks to change the language of Article 11.7 of the local bylaws and the payment for wage loss to temporary workers while attending union functions on work days.
Current wording of the local bylaws:
11.7 Temporary Workers
Temporary workers shall be paid up to eight (8) hours wage loss at the applicable rate for work shifts that were available to them. Per diem compensation as per National Constitution shall be paid when wage loss is not applicable to a temporary worker. A delegate/attendee participating in a Union activity shall be paid the per diem when other postal workers were entitled to wage loss.
The motion seeks to change 11.7 to reflect:
11.7 Temporary Workers
Temporary workers shall be paid eight (8) hours wage loss at the applicable rate for work shifts that were available to them when participating in any Local union function requiring a book-off for a full day attendance.
As it seeks to amend the local bylaws, it is to be posted on the union bulletin boards for members’ information, in accordance with section 10.01 G (1) of the Local Bylaws. The motion will be debated and voted on at the July 26th, 2015 General Membership Meeting.
Motions to amend the local bylaws require approval by a two-thirds majority of the members present and voting at the meeting. Such motions must not conflict with the National Constitution of the Union.
