April 30,2021
As we are all aware the COVID-19 cases have reached an alarming level in British Columbia. Workers at PPC are doing their best to combat COVID-19 by following physical distancing guidelines, taking different break times, doing self-assessments before coming to work, wearing proper personal protective equipment and having volunteer cleaners for high touch surfaces, just to name a few. Despite these efforts, cases inside the plant are on the rise. At the Pacific Processing Plant, we have had over 16 (sixteen) cases in the past 4 (four) weeks.
As a precaution Canada Post has decided to do rapid testing in the fitness center starting April 15, 2021 at 00:01 until the end of day. On April 23, these tests caught 1 (one) member who was asymptomatic. The rapid testing will occur every Thursday with the last day being May 6, 2021. It is a gentle swab of both nostrils and then waiting 15 (fifteen) minutes for the test results. If you decide to partake in the testing, you will be required to have a way home planned ahead of time, as if you do test positive you will not be permitted on the shuttle bus.
This is NOT a mandatory program. However, with the current situation we encourage all members of the PPC to think about taking part. Along with following all public health recommendations it is one more way we can help to ensure the safety of our fellow co-workers, their families and the community.
