If you are interested in participating on this committee, please read the information below, taken from our Vancouver Local by-laws, in regards to the committee’s mandate:
Human Rights Committee 8.3 O
1 The Local Human Rights Committee shall study, report and make recommendations to the Vancouver Local Executive on:
a. the involvement of people of color, differently abled people, lesbians and gays, transsexual, transgender, bisexual, deaf or hard of hearing, and aboriginal people in the Local;
b. the education of the Local membership on equality issues facing people of color, differently abled people, lesbians and gays, transsexual, transgender, bisexual, deaf or hard of hearing, and aboriginal people;
c. the situation of people of color, differently abled people, lesbians and gays, transsexual, transgender, bisexual, deaf or hard of hearing, and aboriginal people in the post office and ways to improve it;
d. fighting racism, homophobia, transphobia, and discrimination against differently abled people.
2. Shall maintain an ongoing communication with the National Human Rights Committee regarding matters which are of concern to the Local Human Rights Committee.
3. Shall be able to book-off up to eight (8) volunteer members for monthly meetings with loss of wages. The priority in these book-offs should go to people of color, differently abled people, lesbians and gays, transgender, bisexual, deaf or hard of hearing, and aboriginal people. Any dispute regarding book-offs shall go to the Local Executive.
